INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 4 tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 4 tbsp. shortening
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 4-1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

DIRECTIONS

  1. Dissolve 1 teaspoon sugar in 1/2 cup water; sprinkle with yeast and leave 10 minutes.
  2. Scald milk and add remaining sugar, butter, shortening and salt. Let cool until lukewarm.
  3. Beat eggs in large bowl; add milk mixture and yeast.
  4. Add 2 cups of flour and beat until smooth. Add remaining flour and knead. Let rise until double in bulk.
  5. Divide dough. Roll each 1/2 into the size of a large dinner plate.
  6. Spread with melted margarine. Cut into 16 wedges, then roll from large end into crescents. Let rise 1 hour.
  7. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 10 minutes.

YIELD: Thirty-two rolls.
